"Chanting "God is Greatest" and "Death to America" some 1,000 people rammed the metal gate to the embassy, which sits behind a high wall in northern Tehran."
http://seven.com.au/news/topstories/141
The embassy they're talking about is the DANISH one! Why chant "death to America" if you're attacking a non-American embassy? Does that make sense? And the cartoonist who 'caused' all this furor wasn't an American either. The whole thing doesn't make sense.
And really people, do you have to take everything so fucking seriously? Do you think that other religious figures haven't ever been mocked? For shit's sake, "South Park" *regularly* mocks Jesus Christ and Satan. You don't see crazy ass Christians storming Comedy Central and setting the place on fire, and those cartoons are way more offensive than the little sketch that's setting of the Muslims.
I'm not saying that anyone *should* poke fun of someone's religon. But is a silly cartoon really worth setting buildings on fire, rioting, and generally acting like an ass? I mean, no one came to YOUR house and set it on fire, right? No one beat up a family member, killed your livestock, or anything else, right? So fucking let it GO. Protest if you must, write angry letters if you must, express that you're pissed of. But act like a damn adult, huh?
Stupid bastards. They're not stupid because they're non-Christian, btw, they're stupid because they can't act properly.
"Yemen closed down a small weekly newspaper and ordered the arrest of its editor on Monday for reprinting the cartoons, the official Saba news agency reported.
A 14-year-old boy was shot dead by police when a protest in northeastern Somalia turned violent on Monday, residents and hospital sources said.
In Afghanistan, one protester was killed in clashes with police. Another person died at the weekend when flames forced him to jump from the burning Danish consulate in Beirut."
Is protesting a stupid drawing REALLY worth all that?

"Condello had a narrow escape from death at the height of Melbourne's gangland war, which raged from 1998 to 2004 and claimed 27 lives."
So a gangland 'war' lasted for 7 years, and killed 27 (that's 3 a year), and it's said to have 'raged'? Shit, more people than that die in a week in American gangs, and it's just a normal part of life, not a 'war'. Is it any wonder I've wanted to move there for years? I'd love to live in a place where 3 dead criminals a year is considered a raging war. Talk about a nice, comfy, relaxing place to live.

Hm...I thought there would be more of interest, but nothing else grabs my attention to comment on. If you're intrested in less American-centric viewpoints, try reading bbc news or au.yahoo.com news. It's nice to read news that's a little more open minded.
